Halloween carnival


I saw this contraption sort of thing on the internet a couple years ago. So I decided to make one for me. We have a Halloween carnival at our school every year. The tickets that kids use for the games go to money for our room. So I needed a moneymaker!

 I bought a board (Yes, I paid 16 dollars for it). I bought the good quality one because I did not want to buy the whole 8 foot by 8 foot panel. My brother cut two holes in the board where the nose is. I spray painted it black. Not sure why. I was just going to do a nose. Stupid me! Then I made the nose with balloons and several layers of paper mache. It took about a week to make. Then after it was dry. I realized that it would look cool with a face so I sprayed it a brown skin color. Painted the eyes and mouth on it. 

I didn't have time to put green hair on it. Then I cut two nostril holes under the nose. You can't see it.  The kids are supposed to put a hand up thru a nostril and the board to a bucket of slime or a prize. It was a winner! I had a lot of kids do this. I am eager to see how much money I raised with my two games that I had. 

We are going to take it to our trunk or treat at our church on Wednesday if the weather holds up.

Iron Rod Short FHE lesson

I like FHE's when they are short and sweet. I have the attention span of a gnat during the summer. I loved the VT message this month and how there was a simple FHE activity. I went on the Friend and found more about Lehi's Dream. Here is the link . I discussed the pictures with my kids in small kid terms and then we did the activity from the visiting teaching message this month. The kids loved it and I think that they really grasped it--the lesson.    I have found that Monday evenings do not work for me but Sunday's instead. We are already in the church mindset. Why not continue the spirit through to the evening? Thought I would share....

Busy week

Sorry no pictures. I have been so busy this week to a point where I am sure to have a nervous breakdown. First, I have a student teacher in my room over the next 10 weeks. I thought it would be a welcome relief to give her things to teach but I am more exhausted and it is tiring work. Then grades had to be put in and it was down over the Christmas break so I had a huge pile to get in. Parent teacher conferences were on Thursday. I didn't meet with alot. I met with most of my students'  parents. The one that I wanted to talk to of course didn't show. My own children are doing great in class. Brayden is started to read more and more each day. He is reading near the end of his grade level. Lyndee knows all of her alphabet and sounds. They finally let her check out a library book. Yippee! Sometimes I wish that they would treat Kindergarten with more rigor toward the middle of the year to get them ready for first. Just my opinion. My house is feeling very neglected and wil...

Day 5 -- Vacation

On Wednesday, our last day in the land of the heat. We went to the Mesa Southwest Museum. I guess it is call the Museum of Natural History. In all my years living in the valley and in Eagar, we never went to this museum. It rocked! I wished that I could take my students there. This room was all black with flourescent lighting. The kids could write on those white board with light wands. Whatever the kids wrote would be gone in about 20-30 seconds. It was pretty cool. I loved the interactive the stuff. I have been wanting to do this for years with my classroom. I have wanted them to create their plays. Then act them out in front of a green screen and then use a computer program to put their scenery in. I think I am going to find a grant and write one! Sister Lou loved being on T.V.
